Women's Health Services in Troy, MI

At Phase Medical Group, we believe that women deserve thorough, unhurried primary care that addresses their full range of health needs. Dr. Alex Christofis is a board-certified family medicine physician providing women's health services in Troy, MI, with a focus on prevention, early detection, and ongoing management of conditions that affect women throughout every stage of life.

Our practice is a family medicine office, not an OB/GYN or specialty clinic. We handle the majority of routine and preventive women's health needs right here, and we refer to trusted OB/GYN specialists for pregnancy care and complex gynecologic concerns. Our goal is to be a consistent, knowledgeable health partner who knows your history and helps you navigate your care with confidence.

Well-Woman Exams

An annual well-woman exam is one of the most valuable things you can do for your long-term health. During your visit, your physician will review your personal and family medical history, assess your current medications and supplements, check your blood pressure, weight, and other vital signs, and discuss any symptoms or concerns you have been putting off addressing.

We also use this time to coordinate age-appropriate screenings, immunizations, and referrals so that your preventive care stays on track year after year.

Pap Smears and Cervical Cancer Screening

Cervical cancer is largely preventable with routine screening. We follow current guidelines for Pap smears and HPV co-testing, and we will walk you through what your results mean and what follow-up, if any, is needed. If an abnormal result requires colposcopy or further evaluation, we will coordinate a referral to a gynecologist.

Lab work associated with Pap smears and other screenings is billed separately from your office visit.

Birth Control and Family Planning

Choosing a contraceptive method is a personal decision, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Your physician will discuss your options in a straightforward, judgment-free way, taking into account your health history, lifestyle, and reproductive goals.

  • Oral contraceptive pills
  • Nexplanon (the arm implant)
  • Contraceptive patch and vaginal ring
  • Hormonal and non-hormonal IUD referrals
  • Barrier method guidance
  • Depo-Provera (injectable contraception)

We do not provide obstetric care or manage pregnancies in our office, but we are happy to help you plan for the future and refer you to an OB/GYN when the time comes.

Menopause Management

Perimenopause and menopause bring real, sometimes disruptive symptoms - hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, and more. These are not things you simply have to push through. Your physician takes an evidence-based approach to menopause management and will work with you to find a plan that fits your individual health profile.

UTI and Vaginal Health

Urinary tract infections are among the most common reasons women visit a doctor, and we treat them promptly and efficiently. If you experience recurrent UTIs, we will take a closer look at contributing factors and discuss strategies for prevention.

We also evaluate and manage common vaginal health concerns, including bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections. Lab work for cultures and testing is billed separately.

Thyroid and Hormonal Concerns

Thyroid disorders affect women at significantly higher rates than men, and the symptoms - fatigue, weight changes, hair loss, mood shifts, and irregular periods - are easy to attribute to other causes. If you have been feeling off and cannot quite explain why, a thyroid panel may be worth discussing.

We evaluate and manage hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and other hormonal imbalances in the primary care setting. We also address conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) from a primary care perspective, coordinating with specialists when needed. Blood work for hormonal evaluation is billed separately.

Bone Health and Osteoporosis Screening

Bone density decreases as women age, and the risk accelerates significantly after menopause. Osteoporosis often has no symptoms until a fracture occurs, which is why proactive screening matters. We follow evidence-based guidelines for DEXA scan referrals and assess your personal risk factors.

If low bone density is identified, we will discuss lifestyle modifications, supplementation, and prescription options to help protect your bones over the long term.

Mental Health Support

Mental health is an integral part of overall health. Your physician screens for depression and anxiety as part of routine care and takes your concerns seriously without minimizing or rushing.

We can manage mild to moderate depression and anxiety with medication and counseling referrals, and we will work collaboratively with any mental health professionals already involved in your care.

Insurance and Cost

Phase Medical Group accepts most major insurance plans. Lab work is billed separately through your insurance - this includes blood draws, cultures, and Pap smear processing. If you have questions about what to expect cost-wise, our team is happy to help. Call 248-847-0626.
