Annual Physicals and Preventive Care in Troy, MI
Your health doesn't wait for symptoms to appear, and neither should your care. An annual physical is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your long-term wellbeing. At Phase Medical Group in Troy, MI, we partner with you throughout the year to help you stay informed, proactive, and in control of your health.
Dr. Alex Christofis is a board-certified family medicine physician who sees patients of all ages. During your annual physical, we take the time to review your medical history, assess your current health, discuss any concerns you have, and make sure you are up to date on age-appropriate screenings and immunizations.
We proudly serve patients from Troy, Rochester Hills, Sterling Heights, Shelby Township, and communities throughout Oakland County, Macomb County, and Metro Detroit.
Why Annual Physicals Matter
Many serious health conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and certain cancers, develop gradually and without obvious symptoms. By the time you notice something is wrong, the condition may already be more difficult to manage. Annual physicals give us an opportunity to identify these issues early, when treatment options are often more effective and less invasive.
Beyond catching health problems early, your annual visit is also a chance to build a relationship with your doctor. When we know your baseline health, your family history, and your lifestyle, we can give you personalized recommendations that make a real difference.
What's Included in Your Annual Physical
Health history review
We begin by reviewing your personal and family medical history. This includes any chronic conditions, past surgeries, medications you are currently taking, and significant health events since your last visit.
Physical examination
Your physician will perform a hands-on physical examination, which typically includes:
Vital signs - blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and weight
Head, eyes, ears, nose, and throat evaluation
Heart and lung assessment
Abdominal exam
Musculoskeletal and neurological assessment as appropriate
BMI calculation and discussion of healthy weight range
Preventive screenings
Based on your age, sex, and health history, your physician will recommend appropriate screenings. Lab work is available and may be ordered as part of your preventive care, though it is billed separately through your insurance.
Immunization review
We review your immunization history at every annual visit to make sure you are current on recommended vaccines. Adult immunizations we commonly discuss include the annual flu vaccine, COVID-19 boosters, Tdap, shingles vaccine (Shingrix), pneumococcal vaccine, and others based on your age and health status.

Insurance and Cost
Most major insurance plans cover annual wellness visits and preventive physicals at no additional cost to you. This is true for many commercial insurance plans as well as Medicare, which offers an Annual Wellness Visit benefit for eligible patients.
Lab work is billed separately through your insurance and may be subject to your deductible or copay depending on your plan. If your visit goes beyond the scope of a standard preventive exam - for example, if you bring up a new medical problem during the appointment - that portion may be billed separately as a problem-focused visit. We will always be transparent about what to expect.
