Lab Work and Blood Testing in Troy, MI

Numbers do not lie. A good bloodwork panel can flag thyroid issues, pre-diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, and cardiovascular risk long before you feel anything. At Phase Medical Group, Dr. Alex Christofis offers in-office blood draws and a full range of laboratory testing so you can take care of it in one stop without a separate trip to an outside lab.

Whether it is routine screening during your annual physical or targeted testing to monitor a chronic condition, your physician uses your results to build a real picture of your health, not just a checkbox.

Lab Services Available

Our office handles blood draws and specimen collection on-site, then partners with trusted reference laboratories for accurate, timely results. Common tests include:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC) - Red blood cells, white blood cells, hemoglobin, and platelets. Screens for anemia, infection, and blood disorders.
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) - Kidney function, liver function, blood sugar, and electrolytes.
  • Lipid Panel - Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides to assess cardiovascular risk.
  • Hemoglobin A1C - Three-month blood sugar average, essential for diabetes screening and management.
  • Thyroid Function Tests (TSH, Free T4) - Screens for hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
  • Vitamin D and B12 Levels - Common deficiencies that can cause fatigue, mood changes, and other symptoms.
  • Iron Studies and Ferritin - Iron stores, helpful for diagnosing anemia.
  • Urinalysis - Screens for UTIs, kidney disease, and diabetes.
  • STI Screening - Available when requested or clinically indicated. See our sexual health page for details.
  • PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) - Prostate cancer screening for eligible male patients.

This is not an exhaustive list. Your physician may order additional or specialized testing based on your symptoms, history, or risk factors.

Fasting Requirements

Some blood tests need fasting for accurate results. Fasting means no food or drinks other than water for 8 to 12 hours before the draw. Tests that typically require fasting:

  • Lipid panel (cholesterol and triglycerides)
  • Fasting glucose
  • Comprehensive metabolic panel (in some cases)

When your physician orders something that requires fasting, our staff will give you clear instructions when you schedule. Not sure? Call 248-847-0626 and we will confirm.

How Results Are Communicated

Most lab results are available within a few business days. Once your physician has reviewed them, you are notified through our patient portal. If anything needs discussion or follow-up, our office contacts you directly to schedule a call or visit. You deserve to actually understand your results, not just see a list of numbers, so we take the time to explain what they mean and what to do next.

Insurance and Billing

Here is how lab billing works. The blood draw and specimen collection may be part of your office visit, but the laboratory processing and analysis is billed separately through your insurance by the reference laboratory. This is standard across nearly all primary care offices. Most preventive lab work (annual bloodwork during a wellness visit) is covered at no cost under most insurance plans.

For specific coverage questions under your plan, contact your insurance directly. Our staff can also help you understand what to expect. Call us at 248-847-0626.

What to Expect During Your Blood Draw

A blood draw is quick and straightforward. A trained member of our team cleans the inside of your elbow, applies a tourniquet, and draws the needed vials with a small needle. The entire process usually takes less than five minutes. You may feel a brief pinch. Mild bruising at the site is normal. Stay well-hydrated beforehand - it makes finding a vein easier and the whole thing more comfortable.
